11/13/2008 - Louisville, KY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez picked up his 10th Silver Slugger Award on Thursday, highlighting a relatively new cast of players to receive the honor given to the top offensive performers at their respective positions.
Rodriguez tied Mike Piazza for second-most Silver Sluggers all-time. Only Barry Bonds, with 12, has more.
Of the American League winners, Minnesota first baseman Justin Morneau, Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia and Baltimore designated hitter Aubrey Huff were first-time honorees. The entire AL outfield -- the Rangers' Josh Hamilton, Cleveland's Grady Sizemore and the White Sox's Carlos Quentin -- won for the first time.
Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter picked up his third straight award, while Twins catcher Joe Mauer won his second.
By contrast, only three National League players won for the first time -- Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun, St. Louis outfielder Ryan Ludwick and Florida Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez.
Outfielder Matt Holliday -- who played for Colorado in 2008 but was traded to Oakland on Wednesday -- won his third in a row, as did Philadelphia second baseman Chase Utley.
Other NL winners of the Silver Slugger were St. Louis first baseman Albert Pujols; Mets third baseman David Wright; Atlanta catcher Brian McCann; and Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano. Pujols won his fourth, while Wright, McCann and Zambrano each won his second.
Selections for the Louisville Silver Slugger Award were based on a combination of offensive statistics including batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage, as well as the coaches' and managers' general impressions of a player's overall offensive value.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch
Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.
Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.
"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."

MySportsbook.com refunds all bets on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay from NFL week one.
(September 14) – Week one of NFL action saw three teams go scoreless for the first time since 1977. Another four were unable to get a touchdown and almost half of the underdogs covered the spread. Those three teams saved bettors at MySportsbook.com from losing out completely, thanks to the company’s unique NFL Shutout Rule -- which ensures that if the team you backed goes scoreless, your wager is refunded.
Sportsbook refunded tens of thousands of dollars to customers who bet on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay, the three teams that stunk up the field so badly that their fans and backers never had a chance to get up from their couches and cheer. In the spirit of the low scoring start to the season, odds makers at the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino have set odds on how many total shutouts there will be this season.
MySportsbook.com has posted updated sports betting lines for week two of the season. Ben Roethlisberger’s health status is still questionable, so Willie Parker will try to lead Pittsburgh again as they travel to Jacksonville as a one point favorite. After beating up on his little brother last week, Peyton Manning will look to lead the Colts to victory against Houston. Indianapolis is a whopping 13.5 favorite in the match-up.
Seattle, last year’s highest scoring team, showed the power of their defense with their gritty 9-6 win in Motown over the ravenous Lions. They take their act back home to the comforts of Qwest Field where they will face the resurgent Arizona Cardinals. The Seahawks are favored by a touchdown.
